What is mental health?

Mental health is a part of our overall well-being, which takes part in our emotions, social interactions, and psychological responses to our everyday lives.

In today’s life, many are experiencing some challenges to their state of mental health. Various reasons are linked to that which will not be discussed in this blog post.

I am trying to say that you should realize that our body is complex.

It would be best if you learned that what you feel, think, do, and respond to is all part of the inner you.

Our brain is an organ, too, like other internal organs we have.

It should also be taken care of like our other body parts.

How to take care of your mental health?

Taking care of our mental health is important to balance our lives. Having enough rest, regular exercise, the right diet, and proper social interactions are essential to make it happen.

1. Having enough rest

You are not a robot. Therefore, you need to take a rest when you get tired.

Yes, it’s nice to be so energetic to work so that your boss will notice how a good employee you are.

It shows your eagerness and enthusiasm to get on top of the company you are working for.

You show all your best every time and always say YES! to all the challenges you face.

But then again, you are not a robot.

You are a human being with limits and deserve to rest.

Too much exhaustion may lead to an unbalanced state of mental health.

Knowing your limits and learning how to set boundaries will help you manage your stress and be able to rest your body the way it needs to.

Giving yourself a good day off every week will provide you with a reboot that you need for the next week’s challenge.

2. Doing regular exercise

Many health gurus have constantly told us, “regular exercise will keep your body healthy and strong.”

It is true!

We should keep moving to help your body know that it’s capable of doing so.

It’ll help your body function well like a newly lubricated engine for your old car.

Studies have shown that exercising improves your mood by releasing happy hormones in your circulation. In addition, these hormones alleviate stress and inflammation and strengthen your immune system.

Do a 15-20-minute brisk walking around your neighborhood, do sets of jumping jacks at home, or even try making some Zumba dance moves at your local gym and discover your hidden dance moves.

It doesn’t matter what others may think of you; you did it for love and care for yourself.

3. Eating the proper diet

We get energy for our daily life activities from the food we eat.

But remember, not all the food that we are “good.”

Good foods are commonly known as natural produce. These are fruits, vegetables, fish, and meat.

Natural produce is called “natural” because it doesn’t undergo several processes and has synthetic chemicals and preservatives.

On the other hand, commercial food like junk foods and fast foods should only be eaten once in a blue moon because it contains many synthetic products that our body cannot process correctly.

We might not feel it immediately, but when it accumulates in the long run, it will give us chronic diseases like heart problems, diabetes, and others.

Choosing the right kind for yourself is essential to make your body less burdened to process unnatural ones and give energy.

4. Exposing yourself to social interactions

As they say, no man is an island.

It would be best to expose yourself to other people to feel alive and happy.

It doesn’t matter if you’re comfortable with only a bunch of people or a large crowd. What matters most is that you do not let yourself be alone for an extended period.

Social interactions help your brain connect with others and learn from them.

It’s a mutual relationship in which both parties are benefitted.

Share experiences help boost your confidence, morale, happiness, and life contentment.

You can do this by reconnecting with your old college friends whom you didn’t talk to for several years, or have a quick chit-chat with your friendly neighborhood, or engaging yourself in family gatherings from time to time.

Go on! Start communicating with others and see what’s in store for you today.

Why should you take care of your mental health?

It would be best if you took care of your mental health because it is your responsibility towards yourself.

Self-care should always be included in your top priorities aside from your family, other loved ones, and friends.

As they say, you cannot give what you do not have; that’s why you should fill yourself up first with love, care, and respect to do the same towards other people.

Yes, it’s easy to say that done but never settle for less for yourself.

After all, you only have yourself at the end of the day; that’s why you should be able to take good care of it for the rest of your life.

You see, when the time comes, others will leave your life.

Your friends may go somewhere far from where you used to live, your parents will not stay with you forever, and even your kids and spouse may one day leave this world.

That’s the reality of life.

It’s daunting and sad, but the thing is, every person on this planet will go through the same process.

All of us will go one day.

So it’s better to savor our time here on Earth with joy, laughter, and love.

You should learn how to love yourself because that’s the only one who won’t leave you until the end of time.

Learn how to be in sync with your body.

Exercise. Eat the right food. Enjoy sunlight. Sleep properly.

And most importantly, be one with yourself.

Learn how to engage with self-talk from time to time to learn more about how to take good care and love yourself.

You can do this by giving yourself a “me time” now and then.

Doing things like cleaning your home, reading a book, and even playing Sudoku will help you connect with your inner self.

Playing Sudoku requires a quietness of your mind to come up with the number to put in place.

During this time, your inner self may be the one doing it for you.

From there, you can discuss things like how you will go about this number combination and come up with a good number to finish it.

Or you can also discuss with yourself what went wrong for not being able to complete it in one go.

Simple things like that are suitable for your mind.

It helps you connect your conscious and subconscious minds even for a brief moment, and that’s a pause.

FINAL SAY

When tired, you should rest. First, do things that you love and enjoy. Then, give yourself time for yourself alone to regain all the energy you need for the next day.

Loving ourselves is not a selfish act but rather an act towards caring for other people properly the way others need to.

Why not try and play Sudoku on your way to work, during your break time, or during your time before bed to connect with your inner thoughts and be in sync with them.
