Does Sudoku help with anxiety?

Sudoku doesn’t directly help with your anxiety but it’ll help you divert your anxious mind to a quiet place for a short period of time.

A direct disclaimer for you, Sudoku cannot cure your anxiety.

Sudoku can be only a good help to control your anxiety for a certain period of time only. It’s like a band-aid solution that can be used in an emergency.

To further grasp what I am telling you, imagine that you are a fashion model and have experienced a wardrobe malfunction at a fashion event. You can’t repair the clothes that you’re wearing because you’re the next in line.

What you have to do is to look for something that will hold your clothes in place for a minute or so, just until you survive your walk with grace under pressure.

You have survived your fashion walk but still, the clothes you wore are not fixed.

Same thing when you use Sudoku to help you ease your noisy mind.

You see, our brain is designed to solve problems every single day of our lives to keep us functioning normally and survive.

When we experience anxiety, our brain is telling us all the negative things that might happen in that event so we can prepare ourselves for the worst outcome.

However, some people are eaten up with their fear of the possible worst-case scenario thus, they end up not doing something about it.

What is anxiety?

Anxiety is our body’s response to a stressful event to keep a person aware of the possible worst-case scenario that might happen in a particular event in their lives.

All of us have experienced being anxious at some point in our lives. It’s normal to feel it whenever you face unfamiliar activity or event you’re in.

It’s our body’s normal response to keep you aware of the negative possibilities that might happen and help you prepare for them.

However, you shouldn’t be eaten up by your anxiety.

Remember, you’re the one who controls your life. It’s up to you to decide on what you should be doing.

As they say, it should always be, mind over matter.

However, there are some people that cannot control what they feel during an anxious event. No matter what they do to divert their attention, still, they have it at the back of their minds which unfortunately affects their everyday lives.

When things like this happen, it’s better to seek professional advice to manage and treat your condition.

It’s not a sign of weakness when you seek help from others but rather, a great strength because you know when you need to reach out to others.

In my opinion, it’s extremely hard to admit that you need support and help from others so, when the time comes to ask others for a helping hand, it’ll take a huge amount of courage.

And I think that’s a huge step to make yourself better.

How to know if you have anxiety?

The only way to know if you have anxiety is to have yourself checked by a professional.

Self-diagnosis is not advisable because you’re not medically trained to assess that kind of condition.

Doctors and other healthcare professionals like I do take time, effort, and persistence in studying how the human body works.

It took us years of tears, sweat, and a lot of failures just to master the field we’re in.

If you feel that you can’t handle those unnecessary thoughts in your head on your own and find it hard for you to cope with some stressful events in your life, seek emotional support from your loved ones, friends, and professionals who can handle cases like that.

As I said, learning when to ask for help is a strength, not a weakness.

But if you happen to carry yourself well enough and be able to do your daily routine with ease but are still bothered with your anxious mind, you can try several things to divert your attention.

Playing puzzles like Sudoku might help you calm down.

You see, Sudoku is a logic-based number puzzle that can be played up by anyone of any age.

All you have to do is grab your pencil and think of which possible number to put on the blank space in your Sudoku puzzle.

Having anxiety from a stressful event in your life from time to time is normal.

It’s our body’s response to alert and prepare us on what should we do in case a worst-case scenario might happen.

However, having consistent anxiety without any signs of stress or danger from your end needs some medical intervention to properly control and manage it.

Normally, we can control our anxious minds by diverting our attention toward something that can calm us.

We can withdraw for a while a do things like, watching movies, eating our favorite meals, going for a walk, scheduling a short vacation, meditation, and playing puzzles like Sudoku.

All of which have one thing in common – focus.

Focusing on one thing that we truly enjoy breaks our minds from too many constraints brought about thinking too much negativity and stress.

Among those examples I mentioned, what worked for me is going for a walk and playing Sudoku.

Walking around our neighborhood gives me a breather to see the blue sky, feel the breeze of fresh air, hear the sounds of the flapping branches of trees, and most of all the warmth of the sun.

Playing Sudoku, on the other hand, helps me explore my subconscious and engage myself in some self-talk and assess what I really feel and think.

It helped me know myself on a deeper level which I often neglect because of my busy schedule.

Sudoku doesn’t only help alleviate my stress but also helped me reconnect to my inner self.

I came to realize what I really wanted and whatnot, what are my strengths and weaknesses, and to understand all the why’s I blabber from the events I find so stressful.
